Can old ETS equipment still be fixed?

Many pieces of ETS equipment are still in use after 20+ years. If repairing a piece of equipment that is older than 10 years, availability of parts may be an issue, but ETS policy is to attempt to repair anything we manufacture, regardless of the age. Turn around time may increase if a critical part is no longer manufactured or hard to obtain.

How much is it going to cost?

ETS can provide prices for calibration. Repairs, if necessary are at an additional fee. In the event a repair is required, ETS will supply an estimate of the cost and will call for approval before the repair is completed. Cost estimates do not include shipping charges.

Our company requires a detailed QA form be submitted and filled out before we can send equipment for calibration. What is your policy?

Due to the large volume of requests and time constraints, ETS does not fill out detailed QA information requests. In the event your company has such a requirement (more than 2 pages), a charge of $100 per page will be assessed.

What is the company calibration policy?

ETS is classified as a small, privately held corporation (Pennsylvania). EIN#: 23-2005073. We are primarily a manufacturing/assembly facility. Calibration services are available for the specialized equipment we manufacture. In some isolated cases we will calibrate competitor’s equipment if it is compatible with our test fixtures and methods. New ETS equipment is supplied with either a Certificate of Calibration (if variable adjustments or manufacturing techniques are necessary to bring the equipment into agreement with NIST-traceable standards) or a Certificate of Conformance (where the equipment meets published specifications by inherent design), when applicable. (This does not apply to accessory items or subsystems). All calibrated equipment includes a calibration sticker listing the date of calibration, technician’s initials, and the suggested re-calibration date which is one year from the calibration date. The ETS Test and Calibration Department maintains equipment and procedures in accordance with Mil-Std 45662A. This standard has since been superceded by ANSI/NCSL Z540-1-1994 which is more stringent, however ETS does not strictly conform to the newer standard. Calibration data is normally not supplied with new equipment, although this may be requested at the time of ordering at additional charge. (The cost is typically our normal charge for a calibration with data.) Calibration standards are calibrated yearly, or more frequently if necessary. The calibration due dates are tracked and NIST-traceability documents are kept on file. The calibration lab used to calibrate ETS standards is fully Z540-certified. ETS’ calibration system adequately meets the requirements of most of our customers and therefore, we are not seeking independent approvals. In the event your company requires an in-depth evaluation of our facility, please contact ETS to arrange for a visit by your inspection personnel. The appropriate information will be made available on a case-by-case basis. ETS does not imply or infer compliance with any requirements that are not listed above.

What is the normal turnaround time for calibration or repair?

Turn around time is typically 1 - 2 weeks after receipt of the equipment. Repair time can vary greatly depending on the backlog in house at any given time. A simple calibration can usually be performed faster than a repair. ETS will make every effort to turn around the equipment as quickly as possible. In some instances, the equipment is delayed due to the lack of a Hard Copy PO or inadequate instructions. Make sure these issues are addressed beforehand if a quick turn around is desired.

What is the process for returning equipment for repair or calibration?

All equipment that is returned to ETS for warranty and non-warranty repairs must be returned on an ETS Authorized RMA#. Please contact the Calibration Department at 215-887-2196 x220 for issuance of a return authorization number. Please save all shipping containers. Calibration & warranty repairs should be returned in the ETS provided shipping containers! A major problem when customers return equipment is that it is often poorly packed. Significant damage can and does occur adding to the repair costs and delays the return of equipment to the customer. Never ship multiple items in the same box unless they are packaged in individual boxes. Use only 275lb double wall constructed boxes.

What is the warranty policy for repairs?

ETS does not have a warranty on repair of used equipment, however, our policy is to correct any problems caused by workmanship in making repairs, or failure of components which we replace when making the repairs, for one year. Because of the age of the equipment, ETS cannot be responsible for future failures unrelated to those originally repaired.

Who pays for shipping on repairs (warranty and non-warranty)?

All shipping, handling and insurance charges are the responsibility of the customer for both warranty and non-warranty repairs.
